Disaster Recovery Planning Workshop set to start
(Suva, Fiji) - - About 40 professionals working in the area of disaster recovery will gather in Lami for a three day training focusing on disaster recovery planning.
The training will be attended by professionals from Fiji and Samoa. It aims to build the skills of a group of professionals oriented towards resilient recovery and enhance their capacity to minimize the impact of future disasters. The training also hopes to strengthen partnerships and improve knowledge in managing recovery programmes, and share lessons learned from prior global/regional and national experiences.
Fiji’s Permanent Secretary for Provincial Development and Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu will officially open the training at 9am on 5 September at the Novotel in Lami. Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Building Division in Samoa’s Ministry of Works, Transport and Infrastructure Elsa Fruean will deliver opening remarks.
The training has been organized by the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR), the International Recovery Platform (lRP) and supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It is part of the European Union funded project "Strengthening Region based Capacities in Pre-Disaster Recovery Planning".
The UNDP Resident Representative and UN Resident Coordinator Knut Ostby will deliver closing remarks on Friday 7 September.
